Synch acts as legal advisor to top-tier international investors in EUR 46 million Series B financing of Aprea AB

Synch has acted as legal advisor to a syndicate of investors co-led by Versant Ventures and 5AM Ventures in connection with the syndicate’s investment of EUR 46 million in one of Karolinska Development’s portfolio companies Aprea AB, a company focusing on novel anticancer therapies targeting the tumour suppressor protein p53. The investment, raised in a series B round, is one of the largest financings ever for a private Scandinavian biotech company.

Versant Ventures, based in the USA, is a leading healthcare investment firm with an emphasis on the discovery and development of novel therapeutics. The firm, with $1.9 billion under management, was established in 1999 and holds offices in North America and Europe and invests across the healthcare sector and at all stages of company development.

5AM Ventures, also based in the USA, is a leading life science venture capital firm dedicated to creating value in early-stage life science companies. The firm, with $685 million under management, was founded in 2002 and holds offices in San Francisco and Boston.

Versant’s David Allison commented: “It was a pleasure working with Synch on this transaction. The Synch team really made an extraordinary effort, bringing both thorough work and balanced perspective to this complex transaction.  Their involvement was incredibly valuable and greatly appreciated.”

Synch’s team, which was led by Andreas Börjesson and Tobias Bergström from Synch’s Project & Transaction Group, included Elisabeth Sundberg, Sara Sparring, David Leffler, Ida Häggström, Sofia Stecksén, Jacob Franck and Peter Eriksson.

“We really enjoyed working with the syndicate in this investment. It’s in these types of transactions that we can really benefit from the combination of Synch’s specialist competence, experience from international venture capital funding and our focus on technology and life science companies which has given us a great understanding of the challenges these companies are facing from a legal perspective” says Andreas Börjesson, acknowledging the great work of all members of the Synch team.
